Journalism Organization

Journalism organization of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University has name Sinar Surya. The organization is established on November 8^th, 2009. The pioneers of this organization are two student’s university. From them come an idea to make the organization. The organization is a literacy-based.  Journalism was a very famous organization at that time because it is a new organization. Journalism base camp formerly in the room which is now a career development. But now, the journalism basecamp is near the steps of building A2. Journalism basecamp is a little room, but did not rule out making members of the organization increasingly deep. Journalism also had experienced ups and downs. Once this organization was triumphant, but now more triumphant. Initially this organization contains only a few children from the language study program. But in this year almost all the study program that follow the organization which they are outside the literacy base. Journalism organization coach has been changing for two periods. The first coach is Mrs. Umi Faizah, M.Pd. She is an Indonesian lecturer at Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. At present the coach of journalism organization is Mr. Andrian Nuriza Johan, S.S., M.Pd. He is an English lecturer at Purworejo Muhammadiyah University.

Journalism organization have several programs. Among them are Makrab (Masa Keakraban). Makrab is an obligation’s activity to become journalism’s members. Before the event took place, a few weeks earlier candidates will be divided into several groups by the organizer. In each group will be accompanied by a journalistic organizer. There will some activities in the program such as pensi (art performances) and outdoor games. The second is the weekly meeting. This meeting aims to determine the development of each division. The third is the monthly coaching. This program followed by all divisions. The next program is Journalism festival. The program does for admonish HPN (Hari Pers Nasional). The organization arrange a contest for SMA/SMK/MA in Purworejo regency. Competition of course about literacy-based competitions such as reading poetry, reading news, and also the essay contest. And there is a program named social work (baksos). The members of organization go to the orphanage and the members arrange some activity which related literacy-based. Other programs that become annual programs are fun camp. Fun camp is a program to familiarize between the organizer and members and also among journalism members or organizer candidate.

The advantages from follow this organization are very diverse. In journalism organization consists of five divisions. There are magazine division, photography division, bulletin division, R & D division, and network division. In each division has its own advantages. But members of journalism are expected to learn or to know all of divisions because the members must work together. Of course the first advantage in following this organization is that we can learn and know more about writing. How to write poems, short stories and other kind of writing. We are also taught about photography. So, for anyone who has a hobby to take a picture, can be developed in this organization. Another advantage is that we can learn about editing. Such as editing videos and magazines as well.

The members’ recruitment is done once every year when new students acceptance. In the PPKKMB (Program Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus Mahasiswa Baru) journalism organization show skill to attract new students. To become a member of this organization, every student must fill in the registration form provided. After that, the organization organizer will notify about Makrab. The new students who register must follow the program as one of the requirements become a member. The programs usually done for two days one night. Makrab aims to get closer between the organizer and new members candidate and also accompany new member candidates.
