How to Improve English Department Students in Speaking Skill

English is an international language used by many countries in the world. Include in our country also study the language. In elementary school, secondary high school, senior high school and even college we got the material. The English department is one of the educational programs at a university. In the educational program learn and explore about English. However, many English department students are less likely to apply their English. So they have not confidence to speak English.

To improve their speaking skill, they have to practice a lot. Many ways they can do to learn their English. There are several ways they can do it. First watch a movie or listen to music. By watching a movie or listening to music we can learn about vocabulary and also how to pronounce word in English. If you do not know what that means, we can watch the movie along with its subtitles. The second way is to read a book. From reading the book we will get a lot of vocabulary and also about the sentence structure used in writing a book. We can also read books by raising the sound. It aims to train our mouth in English.

If every English department student does that, sooner or later they will master English well. They will be easy to improve their speech because they will get a lot of vocabulary either from watching a movie, listening to music or reading an English book. Mastery in English will make the English department students more confident to speak in English.

Silatda IMMawati to voice aspirations

Silatda IMM does by Central Java DPD in cooperation with friends from Purworejo District. The purpose of Silatda IMM is associate the Imawati of Central Java, so the movement is evident, to encourage friends Imawati to be a confident person to voice aspirations. In addition, to build the soul of imawati and open the mind set imawati will how the future of this movement.

This event has been prepared since two months ago. From the committee try to invite participants from each branch and seek to invite speakers whose expectations can arouse interest from Imawati, but the results are not optimal. Many participants are not present in this Silatda event. There are some participants whose confirmation cannot attend for a reason. The event lasted for three days. Hopefully this event in the future will be better.

Journalism Organization

Journalism organization of Purworejo Muhammadiyah University has name Sinar Surya. The organization is established on November 8^th, 2009. The pioneers of this organization are two student’s university. From them come an idea to make the organization. The organization is a literacy-based.  Journalism was a very famous organization at that time because it is a new organization. Journalism base camp formerly in the room which is now a career development. But now, the journalism basecamp is near the steps of building A2. Journalism basecamp is a little room, but did not rule out making members of the organization increasingly deep. Journalism also had experienced ups and downs. Once this organization was triumphant, but now more triumphant. Initially this organization contains only a few children from the language study program. But in this year almost all the study program that follow the organization which they are outside the literacy base. Journalism organization coach has been changing for two periods. The first coach is Mrs. Umi Faizah, M.Pd. She is an Indonesian lecturer at Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. At present the coach of journalism organization is Mr. Andrian Nuriza Johan, S.S., M.Pd. He is an English lecturer at Purworejo Muhammadiyah University.

Journalism organization have several programs. Among them are Makrab (Masa Keakraban). Makrab is an obligation’s activity to become journalism’s members. Before the event took place, a few weeks earlier candidates will be divided into several groups by the organizer. In each group will be accompanied by a journalistic organizer. There will some activities in the program such as pensi (art performances) and outdoor games. The second is the weekly meeting. This meeting aims to determine the development of each division. The third is the monthly coaching. This program followed by all divisions. The next program is Journalism festival. The program does for admonish HPN (Hari Pers Nasional). The organization arrange a contest for SMA/SMK/MA in Purworejo regency. Competition of course about literacy-based competitions such as reading poetry, reading news, and also the essay contest. And there is a program named social work (baksos). The members of organization go to the orphanage and the members arrange some activity which related literacy-based. Other programs that become annual programs are fun camp. Fun camp is a program to familiarize between the organizer and members and also among journalism members or organizer candidate.

The advantages from follow this organization are very diverse. In journalism organization consists of five divisions. There are magazine division, photography division, bulletin division, R & D division, and network division. In each division has its own advantages. But members of journalism are expected to learn or to know all of divisions because the members must work together. Of course the first advantage in following this organization is that we can learn and know more about writing. How to write poems, short stories and other kind of writing. We are also taught about photography. So, for anyone who has a hobby to take a picture, can be developed in this organization. Another advantage is that we can learn about editing. Such as editing videos and magazines as well.

The members’ recruitment is done once every year when new students acceptance. In the PPKKMB (Program Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus Mahasiswa Baru) journalism organization show skill to attract new students. To become a member of this organization, every student must fill in the registration form provided. After that, the organization organizer will notify about Makrab. The new students who register must follow the program as one of the requirements become a member. The programs usually done for two days one night. Makrab aims to get closer between the organizer and new members candidate and also accompany new member candidates.

Al-Iman Mosque (Tiban Mosque)

Al-Iman Loano Mosque locates in Loano Village, Loano District, Purworejo Regency or on Magelang-Purworejo Street Km 7. At first, Al Iman Loano Mosque named Tiban Mosque. Then by the Ministry of Religion named this mosque with the name of Al Imam Mosque. Residents believe that this mosque is a relic of Sunan Geseng, a student of Sunan Kalijaga.

Around society believe that Al-lman Mosque does not begin stand in curent position. Al-Iman Mosque build on the edge Sigendel river flowing through Loano Village. In the history tells that the mosque moved position when the Islamic Mataram Kingdom disport by Dutch into Surakarta and Yogyakarta. The age of this mosque began to unfold in 1993. When official of Balai Pelestarian Peninggalan Purbakala (BP3) Prambanan saw the mosque. They take some architecture photographs and carving on the mosque.

After the photos research by BP3 archaeologists, they conclude that the shape and type of Masjid Al-Iman carving is older than the Great Mosque of Demak. In addition, some believe that the mosque has the uniqueness of a wooden taper on the dome of the mosque. If the tip of the wood on the pointed wood changes direction, then it becomes a marker will happen disaster in the intended direction.

NARRATIVE TEXT

Samba

One day, there lived a boy named Samba. He lived in a small village called Sangarasa. The village was very secluded. He lived, with his father who work as a wood seller. They had a female horse. Samba and his father's life was very simple. For the sake of their daily life they rely on the sale of wood, but not every day the woods are sold out. Sometimes they are only eating sweet potato in their yard garden. Nevertheless, they never sad or despair.

On a hot afternoon, Samba and his father went to the woods to look for wood. As usual, his father carried a bundle of wood to be sold to the market. Samba actually pity to see his father had to carry the wood every day. Samba had asked his father to bring the wood with their horses but his father rejected him with the reason he was still able to do this job alone. When Samba and his father are on the way to the market, suddenly Samba said.

“Father, I'm tired, I do not go to the market. I will go home”, Samba said with a weak face.

Samba’s father allowed him to go home. On the way, Samba kicked a long wood that blocked. But suddenly the wood moves. Samba shocked because he kicked a snake. The snake immediately looked at the person who kick. Samba dodge from the snake. He wanted to scream and run, but his legs could not run. Suddenly….

"Hey, why did you kick me?", the snake said. Sambas frightened is more and more because the snake is talking to him.

 "Hey, why do not you answer me?", ask the snake again.

“I ... I… I do not know if my kick was a snake”, Samba said.

“Why can you talk? Who are you? Are you invisible?”, asked Samba in his frightened. The snake is getting closer to Samba.

“I will not hurt you, I want to ask help”, the snake said.

“What do you want? "Samba asked. Samba look the snack. There was injury on the snake's body. The snake asked Samba to accompany her to a cave because the snake could not afford to creep longer. In his frightened, Samba brought the snake with both hands.

When they arrived at a cave, the Snake asked Samba to take a leaf next to the cave to put it on the injury of the snake's body. After that Samba said goodbye home because the day is getting dark. Just a few steps Samba left the snack, the snake said.

"Thank you".

Samba turned away his gaze. He fell down and was amazed at what he looked. It was not injury snack, but a beautiful girl with sparkling eyes.

Samba fell in love with the girl. The girl came near Samba and begins to tell her that she is deliberately stopping in the middle of the way so she could find someone who wants to take care with her. The girl ran away from her home because contend with her mother.

"Then, how do you turn into a snake?", Asked Samba.

The girl did not answer. Finally, Samba takes her to her house. Samba does not think about how she can turn into a snake. Arriving home, Samba's father is waiting Samba that did not come. Samba told me that he met a girl who lost in the forest. He did not tell that she is a snake. Samba’s father allowed the girl to live in his house.

A few years later, Samba and the girl got married. Day after day, Samba’s family life no change more. Samba and his wife have not been blessed with a child. Samba who works with his father feel less to meet the needs of his household. Finally, Samba decided to wander to the city in the hope that their life will improve there. But his wife refused, he would stay with Dad and his horse at the house.

"I will not leave father. If you want to go no problem but come back for us here."

Samba went to town. First time. he only a fruits seller. But, because of his ability in ride a horse and using his sword, he was appointed a commander in the palace. He remembered the movements taught by his father. In addition, he is also very good at playing arrow. The king's family is very happy with Samba. The king wants to marry Samba with the princess. But Samba refused because he has a wife. But the king does not care about it. He asked the help of his wife who is a magician to make Samba marry his daughter. The king's wife gave a poison to give to Samba’s wife. The king said that the potion is fertility concoction to his wife in order fast pregnant. He came home happily and gave the potion to his wife. He and his wife had long wanted a child.

After a while drinking the potion, Samba's wife felt queasy and dizzy. She fell near the well of her house. Samba found his wife and bring in the house. He looked at her face and hugged her.

"What happen with you my dear. Open your eyes, do not you leave me.”, Samba said.

“My husband, I actually know what kind of potion you bring it in. I know that the potion is poison”, Samba’s wife said.

“If you know, why you drink it?”, asked Samba.

"I'm sorry dear. I'm not a good girl for you. I do not say to you, it's probably can make you know everything.", Samba's wife said.

 "You brought the potion from enchanter. And the enchanter is my mother ", said his wife. Samba surprised to hear the words of his wife.

"Samba, do you remember a few years ago? When our first meeting. I was a snack. I deliberately turned myself into a snake to meet you. I had a power like my witch's mother. There are things you do not yet know. Your mother still alive. Ask all the questions you want to know to your father. Who are you, who your father and who your mother.”, Samba's wife said.

 "I'm sorry Samba. I love you ", after said the word, samba's wife closed her eyes forever. Samba was very sad. He cried and hugged her wife. She felt lost his wife because he so loved her. Samba’s father came back from the forest. He found Samba crying by clasping his wife. The man fell in the floor and cried because look daughter in law is not lifeless.

After that, samba told what had happened and what his wife said. Samba’s father began to tell him that the king who appointed himself as commander is his uncle. Samba’s father is king in the kingdom before captured by his uncle. Samba’s mother actually still alive. His mother enchanted become a horse. The queen who change his mother to horse. When Samba went to town, Samba's father actually knows that Samba’s wife is the daughter of a magician who has change his mother into a horse. The girl knows what her mother did. Because of that, she wants to marry Samba. His wife wants to take care of Samba and his family.

Hearing that, Samba cried. Immediately, he went to the stables and see the mom from distance. The next day Samba returns to the palace. With her angry he rode the palace’s horse to the palace. Arriving there, he tried to compose herself. He wants to kill his uncle soon. But, he did other thing. Samba said to his uncle that he will marry his daughter. But, the king and the queen have to meet his parent in the forest after his marriage. Only the three of them who come there. Without the king’s daughter. His uncle deal with the request.

After the wedding party passed, they went to the Samba’s house. Arriving there, the king was shocked because someone he met is his own brother. Samba’s father looked old.

“Uncle”, Samba said. The king was surprised because Samba suddenly called him with the word.

"You have destroyed my family. You and your wife have poisoned my wife. You are a murderer," said Samba with angry. Do you know who is my wife? She is Madayu. Your daughter”, Samba said.

"Madayu", said the king's wife.

Samba fight with the king. It was a terrific battle between Samba and his uncle. Samba managed to deflect the king's sword. When he will kill the king, he pulls back his sword. He remembered his wife. He so loves his wife and realize that her uncle is his wife’s father.

“I will not kill you. I will not pollute my hand and make my wife disappointed, "Samba said. When Samba turning his body, the king took the sword and immediately stabbed Samba.

But, quickly the horse from the cage came out and blocked the sword. She slipped the horse. Samba and his father approached the horse. Samba took the sword directly and kill his uncle. Samba ran to his mother soon. Suddenly, arise light from the horse's body and change into a human body. Sincerely the horse turns into the Samba’s mother.  Her belly is covered in blood.

"Forgive me mom.”, Samba said.

" Samba ... ", said Samba's mother and smiled. Her mother closed her eyes. Samna and his father was cry. The queen closer to them and said.

“I'm sorry Samba. I took the witchcraft on your mother. Maybe it will not make everything back like from the beginning. All this is my fault. Kill me! I deserve this punishment.”

“I will not kill you. You can alienate yourself in the forest. Never you go back to the palace or in front of me ", said Samba.

“Okay, I'll do it if you want. Thank you for loving my daughter, "the queen said.

After that incident, Samba and her father came back to the palace without his wife and his mother. Samba’s father became to king again, but he gives the place to the son. So, Samba a commander, now a king in the palace. He became a wise and just leader to the community. But behind all that there is longing and there is sadness that deep in his heart. He missed his wife and his mother.

Procedure Text

HOW TO MAKE “CILOK KRISPY”

with peanuts sauce

Ingredient:                                     

1.     Wheat flour                              

2.      Tapioca flour                                     

3.      Bread crumb                                       

4.      Sausage                                               

5.      Garlic                                                  

6.      Chili                                                    

7.      Pepper

8.      Salt

9.      Flavoring

10.  Cooking oil

Sauce ingredient:

1.     Peanuts

2.      Palm sugar

3.      Garlic

4.      Chili

5.      Kencur

6.      Lime leaves

How to make sauce:

1.      Fried the peanuts until browned. Raise and drain.

2.      Mashed the spices (Kencur, lime leaves, garlic, chili and salt).

Put the fried peanuts and palm sugar and mashed.

3.      Put water in the sauce.

How to make spicy sausage:

1.      Cut the sausage and rough chop.

1.      Mashed the spices (Garlic and salt).

Mix the spices with the sausage.

How to make “Cilok Krispy”:

1.      Mix wheat flour, tapioca flour and spices that have been mashed (pepper, garlic, and salt). Add water little by little and knead until smooth.

1.      Make a round dough by adding spicy sausage in it.

Boil the water and put the cilok in it until float. Raise.

Put the dough that has been round with the flour wheat dough and put into bread crumb.

1.      Heat the cooking oil and insert the dough that has been put in bread crumb until browned.

1.      Raise and drain. Cilok krispy ready to serve with peanuts sauce.
